By this test method the in-plane
tensile properties of polymer matrix composite
materials reinforced by high-modulus fibers may be determined. This method may
only be used to test composite materials in which the laminate (whether
continuous fiber reinforced or discontinuous fiber reinforced) is balanced and
symmetric in relation to the direction of the test.
This test method is useful to
determine tensile property data needed for research
and development, quality control, structural design and analysis, and for
material specifications. The properties which may be obtained in the test
direction include:
Ultimate tensile strength,
Ultimate tensile strain,
Tensile chord modulus of elasticity,
Poisson's ratio, and
Transition strain.
